I coined the term “from road to roof” recently and even trademarked it. Yet NASA and NIKE are taking it from “road to space” as they collaborate on new energy technologies that are going to help the electric vehicle industry lower costs, improve range and become mainstream.
The amount of effort and energy (no pun intended) being expended on the electric vehicle industry is just amazing and proof that this time, they mean it. Look, EVs have existed for over a hundred years and the issues have been well known for that long as well. However, given the oil industry’s subsidization of fuel, we got hooked on a simpler alternative that received more attention. Yet now we all realize that not only does electricity provide us with “home grown solutions”, its also cleaner….and it just might make wars like the ones fought in Libya and Iraq a thing of the past (and you all thought those wars were about deposing dictators…sheesh! :)…
Apart from some greenwashing, it will be interesting to see what NIKE gets out of this initiative…solar powered shoes? I wonder if those would be allowed in a world sprint record? There we go…the BOLT vs the VOLT!
