The safety factor in EV battery power.

While solar power has established a very good record for safety and stability, there is a natural question about a car travelling at high speeds with a huge battery bank inside. What happens in a crash? Do we all get curly hair…or worse?

This article serves to calm anyone’s thoughts about the potential risks of placing large lithium battery banks in cars, and what may happen in a crash situation.

Of course, leave it to Volvo to lead the way in such matters. It makes perfect sense that this company, who’s brand is associated with safety, is one of the leaders in how its EV battery banks are protected.

I am sure we’ll hear more about this in the near future as EVs roll out, with the occasional incident attempting to point fingers at the EV as the culprit of fires, etc. Just as the gasoline tank underwent redesigns in order to make it safer, so will EVs. Luckily, it seems that car makers learned their lessons well and are applying those experiences even to the first generation of electric vehicles.
