GM has offered a replacement to Volt owners who are concerned by the recent resting results by the US government on EV car batteries.
Hold your horses guys? Doesn’t anyone remember how recently gas tanks were still blowing up when ignited by cigarettes thrown out of cars on the freeway? We drive around with a time-bomb full of gasoline all day long. The difference is that the oil industry is not behind the automotive guys, helping them fund the fix (which was mandated by law and became standard).
In this case, the government is at it alone to help the automakers develop standards and ensure that no such future occurrences appear. And let’s remember, there are tens of thousands of EVs out there and so far its just a couple that have manifested these issues.
So while I applaud GM for taking such quick action, I just implore everyone to take a deep breath and let the authorities and car experts figure out the required mandated specifications that will govern all car makers equally.
