Back to the Past?

So today I am back on my blog. Its been ages since I have written anything that I felt worth sharing. Today I will reflect on the amazing changes going around me that I took some time to breathe in today.

I’ll start with my kids.

Ethan is working at Pratt &Witney as an engineering intern. How exciting is the fact that as a youngster, he used to love planes, trains and anything Lego. I would dare say that Ethan has turned into a fine, young man who is trying to figure out a messy world. He’ll make it through his intelligence, insight and kindness.

Justin is in Europe, on the last leg of his European tour. From Amsterdam (“dad don’t ask”) to Barcelona, with stops in Geneva to see his uncle/aunt/cousins and the Greek Islands, I sense a very content young man returning to his first job in a financial markets broker office. Besides missing him on the baseball team, in this past month I have missed the father-son battles of learning how to live together after years apart.

Joshua, boy wonder #3, has been accepted at Lincoln Memorial on a tennis scholarship. Two years ago, when I took over his tennis training management, I asked his coach if what he was doing would allow him to enjoy his passion through college. The answer was a flat “no”. So we changed up the programme, increased the intensity and Josh did the rest. He’s matured into a balanced, funny and insightful young man and it will be very different to have to accept Skype as the only means by which to see him for months, yet that is part of letting the birds leave the nest, trusting that you’ve done the best you can with the tools at hand.

And finally..Emma! A young woman about to end her second-to-last year of high school. She’s got beautiful singing talent which I hope we find a way to keep supporting. She hates it when I send her “philosophy”…yet that’s OK..I tell her dads are why there’s a DELETE button.

Its been rockNroll in the family household. Never a dull moment with a Moonlight golden retriever around. With summer upon us, BBQ’s, bike rides and strolls in the park are on the menu.

Not much more for this first “getting back in the saddle” post. As I begin to find the legs to write again…I hope that something I share touches someone out there.
