What’s the big difference between now and 100 years ago for electric vehicles?

Lithium. Politics. Economics. Environment.

Lithium is a technological difference. Politics is a reality whereby security and safety are now major challenges to those who import fuel from countries torn by war. Economics is based on the need for industry to create wealth through job creation, which only happens when something is “new”. Environment is well…perhaps a bit of truth and perhaps a bit of narcissism where we all fight to claim to be the greeneest?

This article shows well the potential growth in the use of storage. That good old creation, management, storage equation I’ve been blogging about since 6 years is now about to explode and large lithium power storage (and its second life automotive cousins) is about to change the power equation forever.

Some questions to ponder:

1. Will the cost of lithium become like a cartel, instead of the Saudis or Columbians…we get the Bolivians? (big chunk of the world’s bank of lithium is there)

2. Will the middle east significance be reduced to sand in about 30 years or will huge solar farms be erected with underwater conduits to Europe?

3. Will the true cost of moving to the “lithium revolution” include the cost of disposal after the second life is done?

4. Will we essentially transport our garbage to other planets, as we see in Greenspace, the first game of the Ottawa game company (RocketOwl) I helped co-found last year?

5. Will this solar blog be totally powered by solar generated power by day and stored in lithium batteries by night?

All I know is that to be in clean energy remains a passion I can’t seem to shake….and so renewal in renewables seems to be the destiny…
